What is Final and unappealable judgment (trânsito em julgado)?

A final and unappealable judgment is the instant a decision becomes immutable because no appeal remains. From that point res judicata is formed (art. 502 of the CPC), and what was decided becomes definitive, protected by the Constitution (art. 5º, XXXVI).
